OpenED Network Congress

You are invited to participate in the International Conference of New Perspectives in Education and Social Sciences (INPESS 2022). The Conference will be held as a fully virtual/online meeting on November 23-24, 2022.

INPESS 2022 is jointly organized by OpenED Network and Education Research and Rural Community Development Forum. The Conference aims to bring together researchers, experts, graduate students and practitioners from different countries, and to offer opportunities to share the ideas, and to discuss theoretical and practical issues in education and social sciences.

Please note that only oral presentations will be accepted at INPESS 2022. There will not be poster presentations and/or presentations in other formats. All the papers accepted and presented at INPESS 2022 will be published as full-text paper in the conference proceedings book.

To attend the Conference, please register and submit your proposal first. The proposal will be added to the submission panel in your account. If your proposal is accepted for presentation, then you may upload your full-text paper for publication in the proceedings book. To prepare your proposal, please refer to Conference Guidelines

Only one paper is allowed for one registration fee. The participants may submit a maximum of 2 papers. An additional payment of $100 is required for the 2nd paper. Registration fee will be charged only for the participants with oral presentation. Participating as a listener without presentation nor paper publication is totally free of charges.     Title of Presentation: Learning, Openness and Democratic Play


Yusef Waghid, a leading African philosopher of education, is distinguished professor at Stellenbosch University in South Africa. He is a prolific author with 412 publications to date of which 53 are academic books and edited collections and, 86 invited contributions to books. He received the Association for the Development of Education in Africa’s prestigious Education Research in Africa Award: Outstanding Mentor of Education Researchers (2015). He is editor of two prominent academic journals, namely Citizenship, Teaching and Learning (since 2018), and South African Journal of Higher Education (since 2005), and serves as a board member of the Council on Higher Education in South Africa.

His most notable scholarly contributions in the field of African philosophy of higher education feature in significant international scholarly books which include, inter alia, Towards an Ubuntu University: African Higher Education Reimagined (Palgrave-MacMillan, 2022, with others); Education, Crisis, and Philosophy: Ubuntu within Higher Education (Routledge, 2022); Democratic Education as Inclusion (Lexington, 2022, with Nuraan Davids); Higher Teaching and Learning for Alternative Futures (Palgrave-MacMillan, 2021, with Zayd Waghid, Judith Terblanche & Faiq Waghid); Academic Activism in Higher Education: A Living Philosophy for Social Justice (Springer, 2021, with Nuraan Davids); Towards a Philosophy of Caring in Higher Education: Pedagogy and Nuances of Care (Palgrave-MacMillan, 2019); Education for Decoloniality and Decolonisation in Africa (Palgrave-MacMillan, 2019, with Chikumbutso Herbert Manthalu); Rupturing African Philosophy of Teaching and Learning (Palgrave-MacMillan, 2018, with Faiq Waghid & Zayd Waghid); and African Philosophy of Education Reconsidered: On Being Human (Routledge, 2014).
